“Have I Mentioned I Am A Wolf” by Sarah Herrin

Housewolf home-kept restless in my cage

Close the catch on my own collar

At night I don’t mind the leather the fur-lined edge

Windchime metal that beckons an invisible leash

Not the lone type not quite not even an alpha

pack animal finding solace in the wildness of others

I hunt I feed I bury the excess for later –

Run through the forest howl at the half-moon

No need to wait until she is full

I am full – full of night

I swallow the stars Drink moonlight like milk

In this house I run and run

And chase my own tail.
