Join us during National Poetry Month in April at the Center for Colorado Women’s History for a series of poetry workshops facilitated by local educator and poet, Marissa Forbes. Participants are invited to attend all dates but are not required to. Each workshop requires its own RSVP, so please visit each workshop posting to register. Workshop Description Week 1: Undergarment Odes

Participants will first learn about the poetic forms, Addresses and Odes, and then take a captivating and highly focused tour of the “Rumors and Bloomers” exhibit. We will have an intimate opportunity to sit with the corsets, bloomers, swimming costumes, and petticoats so we can write poems dedicated to the items that have enhanced and concealed Colorado women through history. We’ll give honor and power to these often hush-hush clothing items. 

About the Facilitator

Marissa Forbes (she/her) is an author, artist, and creative instructor. Her poetry books, Surviving Peter Pan (Beyond the Veil Press) and Brief & Bleeding Margins (World Stage Press) were published in 2023. Other published poems and short stories can be read on marissaforbes.com and @word_nerd_ris. She is the Managing Editor for Twenty Bellows, an art instructor at The Art Garage, and teaches poetry for the Denver Chapter of Community Literature Initiative’s 10 month Poetry for Publication program. Forbes has resided all over the country but now lives a colorful life in Denver with her two children, father, dog, and cat where she hones her personal mission of amplifying art and community in Colorado.
